A range of industries can take advantages of the unique nature of resin ribbons. Specifically, industries that operate outdoors or under high temperatures. The number of sectors that they are suit. Including healthcare & pharmaceutical, retail & warehousing, chemical, metal and lumber, industrial, electronics and horticulture.
What are the main features of resin ribbons?
Resin ribbons offer a print that is abrasion and scratch resistant, whilst being resistant to a range of chemicals and solvents (such as alcohol and grease) Despite being able to print at high speed, the resulting print remains high density. The low energy printhead is also anti static.
What are the properties of resin ribbons?
The ink is black in colour. It’s melting point is 110 degrees, making it suitable for industries that operate outdoors under high temperatures. The thickness of the ribbon is less than 9 micrometers, whilst the carrier is a 4.5 micrometer thick polyester film. The maximum print speed of the ribbon is 300mm a second.

What are the layers in resin ribbons?
Typically they include a number of layers. Including:
Backcoating: This layer protects the printhead from heat, static and abrasion. If this layer fails, the ink could make contact with the printhead. And this could cause a blockage. Which results in poor print quality and overall printer issues.
A faulty backcoating can generate friction between the ribbon and printhead which can damage the printhead and potentially create static. Ultimately, this could damage the printer and be very dangerous for the user as well.
Carrier material: The carrier material is the thickest layer of the ribbon. It is important to be tear resistant and conduct heat well. This is so that the ink is heated evenly and the resulting print is of high quality.
Release coating: The release coating provides a bond between the carrier and ink layers. This ensures that the ink is even and smooth during the printing process.
Ink layer: This layer contains ink that is transferred on to the media. Sometimes, additives are used to achieve good colour and finish.
